As dachshund parents ourselves, we know firsthand how much joy, laughter, and unconditional love these dogs bring into people’s lives. But not every dachshund has a safe home or the medical care they need. That’s where incredible rescues like Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas come in.
This month, we’re proud to feature Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas (DDRTX) as our Rescue of the Month. They’ve been changing the lives of dachshunds across Texas, and we can’t wait to share their story with you.

Who is Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas?
Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas (DDRTX) is a volunteer-run nonprofit based right here in Central Texas, and they’ve made it their mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dachshunds in need. Since 2001, DDRTX has been giving second chances to dachshunds who have been abandoned, surrendered, lost, or left behind.
The team at DDRTX believes every dachshund deserves love, safety, and the chance to live a happy life. That means they don’t just focus on adoptions, they also provide medical care, foster homes, and training to help each dog become their very best (and we all know dachshunds already think they’re the best).
From tiny puppies to seniors with special needs, DDRTX steps up for them all. They’ve built a community of people who share one thing in common: a deep love for these little dogs with big personalities and even bigger hearts.
And while their name may say “Texas,” their impact reaches far beyond state lines, often helping dachshunds from neighboring areas and giving them hope when no one else will.
Over the years, Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas has made a life-changing difference for hundreds of dachshunds, and the people who love them. Every dog they rescue has a story, and thanks to DDRTX, those stories often get a much happier ending.
From saving dachshunds with serious medical issues, like IVDD, to helping senior dogs find comfort in their golden years, DDRTX doesn’t shy away from the tough cases. They believe that every dog matters, no matter their age, condition, or past.
One of the things that makes DDRTX special is the way they focus on finding the right home for each dog. It’s not about rushing an adoption, it’s about creating a great match between dachshund and family, so both can thrive together.
Their dedication has inspired a strong community of fosters, volunteers, adopters, and donors who all work together to give these pups a second chance at life. And time and time again, they’ve proven that with a little love (and sometimes a lot of belly rubs), anything is possible.

🐾 The Big Give – September 17–18
Mark your calendars! The Big Give is a 24-hour online fundraising event where you can help support DDRTX and the lifesaving work they do. Every dollar raised helps cover things like vet bills, medications, foster supplies, and emergency rescues.
This is one of the biggest giving opportunities of the year, and your donation, big or small, can help ensure that more dachshunds get the second chance they deserve.
As we get closer to the upcoming event date, more information and a website will be available. For now, you can stay updated by following them on social media, where they’ll share links, stories, and ways to give as the event gets closer.

🐾 Dachtoberfest – November 8, 2025
While the team is hard at work planning for Dachtoberfest, we couldn’t resist giving you a little teaser! This annual event is always a fan favorite, bringing together dachshund lovers from all over for fun, fundraising, and of course lots of adorable weens.
This will be their 5th Dachtoberfest event celebrating love and devotion for dachshunds. This major fundraising event raises money for DDRTX through pet and family friendly fun-filled activities such as dachshund races, vendors, food trucks, and a silent auction (just to name a few)!
Mark your calendars for November 8th from 10am – 4pm at the Helotes Festival Grounds located at 12210 Leslie Road, Helotes, Texas 78023. Stay tuned to DDRTX’s social media for more details as the event approaches. You won’t want to miss it!

Whether it’s $5 or $50, every donation helps cover medical care, food, and shelter for dachshunds in need. Keep an eye out for The Big Give on September 17–18, or donate directly once their website is live.
Opening your home to a dachshund, even temporarily, can literally save a life. Fostering gives dogs a safe space to heal and grow while they wait for their forever homes. And if you’re ready for a lifelong best friend, adoption might be for you.
